C 28782 MONDAY, JAN. 13,1992 The weather Thursday, high 58, low 44, hum. 68 percent, and at 7 a.m. Friday there was a trace of precipitation. Now we've really done it. Sure, it was fun talking to radio disc jockeys in the Mid-West and California about "the world's smallest daily news paper." And doing that inter view with Associated Press last year was a kick. We learned to banter with the media personalities, calling them by their first names: "Yes, Jerry," and "Well, you see, Jim..." in the proper radio tone of voice. Well, now we're going to pay the price. Now we'll size back down to our britches. David Letterman's "Late Night" staff called for a subscription Tliursday. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Fear swept through the newsroom, front office and production shop of the Tryon Daily Bulletin after Wanda Cash put down the phone receiver. Have you ever seen Dave (Continued On Back Page) Sidestreet, Jaycees Plan Benefit Dinner For Keuther Surgery Ralph Keuther of Tryon has been told by his doctor that he must have by-pass heart surgery, but he is without health insurance. To help him bear the cost, the Polk County Jaycees and Sidestreet Pizza have teamed up to hold a benefit Spaghetti Supper Sunday, Feb. 9. The meal will be prepared by Sidestreet, featuring Sidestreet's own spaghetti sauce, meatballs, salad, garlic bread, drink and dessert. For 859-8322 nf0rma ‘ i0n ’ Cal1 Polk Man Arrested For Assault, Robbery Jackie Lee Twitty, 32, of Rt. 4, Rutherfordton, in Polk County, turned himself into Polk County authorities last Thursday night after being sought for armed robbery in Rutherford County. Twitty was charged with two counts of common law robbery, one count of assault inflicting serious injury and two counts of armed robbery. The crimes occurred Thursday morning in Rutherford, said Rutherford County chief deputy Floyd Lawter. The Holland Express Conve nience Store in the Sandy Mush community was robbed at 10:52 a.m. The robber beat the clerk severely, causing serious inju ries to her face and head. He then took her pocketbook and the cash from the cash drawer. The robber then went to the Country Plaza II convenience store in the Danieltown com munity, where he pulled a handgun on the clerk and took her pocketbook and the cash from the cash drawer. Lawter said both victims positively identified Twitty as the robber. A warrant was issued for Twitty's arrest. The Polk County Sheriff Thursday night transported Twitty back to Rutherford County, where Lawter said Twitty confessed to committing the crimes. Twitty is the son of the late Lynn Twitty, formerly a Polk County deputy sheriff. Tryon Kiwanis To Hear About Outreach Ministry The Rev. Fran Ruthven will speak to the Tryon Kiwanis Club about the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Western Steer Fam ily Steakhouse in Columbus. Ruthven is a graduate of Hazard University, where she earned a Masters in Divinity degree. She is currently com pleting a Master of Theology degree from Columbia Theo logical Seminary in Atlanta. She has served in several pastoral positions in Massa chusetts and Georgia and directed a homeless shelter for worsen and children in Atlanta. She is currently a part-time director of the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry. She is mar ried to the Rev.
